The 129-year-old Aberdeen train station, which was once part of the historic B&O Railroad, was lifted and moved 50 feet from its original location. CSX Corporation, who currently owns the nearby rail line, cited safety issues as the main reason for requesting the re-location.
The Historical Society of Harford County, with support from The Maryland Historical Trust, has worked for more than 10 years to save the station, and its members’ efforts have finally paid off. Once the building is set on its new foundation, The Aberdeen Room Archives & Museum will retain ownership and begin the search for a suitable tenant.
