Hire a structural engineer to evaluate your home’s foundation and provide a written assessment
If you have an engineer’s report confirming that you have a deteriorating foundation, you can request that your town re-asses your home value. You might qualify for some tax relief (Under Public Act 16-45, as of October 1, 2016).
Your insurance company cannot cancel or not renew your homeowners policy because of a crumbling foundation.
Hire contractors who are registered and reputable. Be wary of anyone contacting you offering to repair or replace your foundation.
